WREC's tour of green infrastructure
Green Tour
Every year, WREC and our partners host a tour highlighting green practices your neighbors installed to improve water quality and habitat within the community.
2023 Seed Collection Workshop
Join WREC Staff and local restoration specialist, Stephanie Frischie, as we tour local stormwater infrastructure and learn to collect seeds from established native plants. Participants will learn how to identify some of the plants, proper seed collection and processing techniques, and be allowed to collect their own seeds to take home! Stephanie Frischie is the owner of a local native plant and restoration consulting company, Native Interest. She’s done restoration work for the Nature Conservancy in Indiana, and provides pollinator habitat expertise for the Xerces Society. All supplies will be provided for this workshop and we will organize a carpool to travel from site to site.
At each site participants will be able to collect seeds from the native plants to take home. In December, WREC will offer a winter sowing workshop. Participants of the seed collecting workshop can either store their seeds to use in the winter sowing workshop or use them in their own home projects.
Registration is required! We will meet at the Lilly Nature Center and carpool from there to all the sites.
