Creating opportunities for Greater Lafayette to engage with the enhancement of the Wabash River is critical. Here at WREC, we provide a variety of events for the public, from water sampling and landscape tours to our very own festival.
Heritage - Sagamore Trail Connector Ramps Grand Opening
Sunday November 1, anytime 1-4pm
Wabash Heritage Trail in Lafayette or Nighthawk Trail in West Lafayette
Park at McAllister Park in Lafayette or Goodwill in West Lafayette and walk the trail out to the new ramps that allow pedestrians and bikes to cross the Wabash on the Sagamore Trail. Musicians will performing along the Heritage Trail on the Lafayette side, and there are treats and warm drinks waiting at the project sites!
It’s about a mile walk from the McAllister to the Lafayette ramp project, and about 3/4 of a mile from the Goodwill in West Lafayette to the trailhead under Sagamore. Grab a treat before turning back, and enjoy the fall weather on our beautiful riverfront trails!
Wabash Heritage Trail Hike

After the amazing time we had hiking the Heritage Trail last year, we are hosting that hike again! This year, we’ll do the whole hike in one day. If you don’t want to hike the whole 13 miles, you can sign up for a smaller segment. To make this happen, participants are asked to, if possible, have their vehicles available for use in the public carpool at the beginning and/or to assist in driving the carpool drivers back to Battlefield Park at the end of the hikes.
The pace averages about 2.5 mph for all hikes and there will be short breaks along the way. These are the segments available to hike:
- Battlefield Park to Davis Ferry (3.5 Miles ~ 1.5 hours)
- Battlefield Park to Tapawingo Park (8 Miles ~ 4 hours)
- Battlefield Park to Fort Ouiatenon (13 Miles ~ 6.5 hours)

Wabash Riverfest

Tapawingo Park
Join us to celebrate our community’s defining natural resource – the Wabash River! We’ll have river activities like voyageur canoe races, paddling trips, quick canoe and kayak trips, paddle board yoga, stand-up paddleboarding, and kids fishing. Combine that with booths hosted by local groups working in conservation, food trucks, and live music, and you’ve got yourself a good time! Check out our festival website to learn more.

Tapawingo Park
Join 200 other community members in a live concert-meets-float trip on the Wabash River. We have over 40 boats that you can chose to paddle in. Make new friends in a raft or voyageur canoe, paddle solo in a kayak, or bring a friend in a 2-person canoe. We’ll provide life jackets and paddles for those using our boats. Or bring your own boat. We’ll start at Davis Ferry and paddle 5 miles to Tapawingo Park while enjoying live, local music!
