Events
Get Connected. Stay Involved.
Creating opportunities for Greater Lafayette to engage with the enhancement of the Wabash River is critical. Here at WREC, we provide a variety of events for the public, from water sampling and landscape tours to our very own festival.
Native Plant
Winter Sowing Workshop
Winter Sowing is a technique to grow seeds outdoors in milk jugs through the winter. It’s easy, cheap, and effective!
WREC is collaborating with the Tippecanoe Partnership for Water Quality to offer a winter sowing workshop on January 24, 2026 from 10am-12pm. Participants will learn how to winter sow and take home your own milk jugs planted with seeds. We’ll provide potting soil and tools. You bring a non-white milk jug or other clear plastic bottle and some native plant seeds. We’ll have some extra jugs and native plant seeds if you need them! Come get your hands dirty and grow some native plants for your landscape.
Upcoming Volunteer Oportunities
Whether you’re just dipping your toes in to volunteer work, or ready to jump straight in to community involvement, here are some ways you can get involved with improving our waterways.
Wabash Riverfest is coming up on July 11th! We need lots of volunteers to make this event possible. Every volunteer gets a free Riverfest t-shirt that was designed by a local artist. Volunteers that help out for 2 or more shifts get their choice of a free river-friendly gift – your choice of several books, a free rain barrel, or a free native tree or shrub.
